My Mod Pop Art has taken me on many different artistic journeys throughout the last 6+ years, and with this experimentation has come the discovery of exactly what my favorite things are to create in the realm of graphic art & design (and perhaps also what I feel I am best at). One of those things is film poster art. There's just something I love about the combination of digital painting along with the designing of the layout and typography that is ultra-satisfying when it works out well. Even for somewhat simplistic pieces like this one with not a ton going on, so much time and thought goes into every detail. In fact, I'm guessing the average person who doesn't dabble in art or design has no idea of the huge number of hours and that goes into figuring out what reference images to use, how the art will be laid out, what the background(s) will be, what colors to use where (and why), what fonts/typography to use and where the placement and sizes and colors of the text will be, what size(s) the piece will be, what different variants might exist, experimenting with a million different combinations of all of the above, and of course, the actual hand-painting of the artwork. If you're wondering, every piece of art is different, but one work like this (which, again, is relatively simple compared to some of my other work) can easily take 40, 60, even 80 hours or more. Perhaps this is why the completion of a graphic movie poster is so satisfying in the end. I hope those of you who have landed on this page and are interested in weirdo Lynchian-themed artwork like this will get some pleasure out of my Wild at Heart Collection, as that is all I need to make those hours of work worthwhile.
