Check out the other version of "The Webslinger"!

There's no denying it: Spider-Man has become one of the most popular characters in the pop culture universe - er, multiverse. But I remember when it was just one of many comic books on the (very crowded) shelves. Spidey was one of the bigger ones, sure, but nothing near the ginormous entity it is now. I had many friends who were huge comic nerds, but I just dabbled myself on occasion. But when I did buy and read comic books, I definitely got down with some webslinging goodness. There was something about Peter Parker's cheesy good-natured innocence combined with some seriously amazing abilities and crazy villains that I really gravitated toward. And let's not forget that badass cartoon series I religiously watched in re-runs, the theme song of which rivals the original 1966 Batman series and Sanford and Son for best TV theme song ever!

I'm fully aware there are literally millions of pieces of Spider-Man artwork out in the world, so to set myself apart, I kept it simple and stuck to what I do best. I painted my version of the iconic Spidey face, '50s floating head-style (you know I love a floating head!), and placed it in front of my graphical interpretation of the iconic original spider logo, then added my signature gradient hues emanating outward, plus some glowing effects for extra pop. But the thing I love most are the colors; I wanted to steer very far away from the standard red and blue - or black and blue, or any of the existing alternate variants out there - and go with some of my favorite staples for the color scheme, to ensure this would not be something you see every day. The result is what happens when a traditional comic book hero becomes full-blown Mod Pop Art!
